What will it take for Americans to take gun control seriously?

In the wake of the Virginia Tech atrosity, what else has to happen in order to make Americans seriously look at our gun control laws. I understand hunters need to hunt and they can all keep there rifles and shotguns. Sorry but the uzi's and automatic weapons need to go away.

Also we need a little more then a green card, checkbook, and a water bill to buy a gun.

And lets get rid of all the metal detectors infront of congress and the whitehouse. Let the people who make these ridiculous laws go to work like the rest of us do.

I understand the right to bear arms, howerver if you read a little further, it means americans have the right to form a militia. So that we could go fight the army if need be. Well if civilian had to go up against the army today, it would be as ridiculous as hunting a deer with a uzi.

Can we please try to learn and grow from this horrific event? What will it take for Americans to take gun control seriously?
The reason we have guns is to be able to overthrow the government should it become oppressive I don't want to fight against a M-16 with a rock. What will it take for Americans to take gun control seriously?
ok. the vt gun masacre used two semi-automatic handguns. why are you talking about uzis when they weren't even used? now, think about this, would it have made a difference if the teachers and trained students had firearms? yes. students themselves even said they would have carried firearms.

also, if you really think about what a militia was back then, you would understand that owing a firearm is an individual's right. the reason that amendment is in the bill of rights is because they were pissed when the british would go into their houses and take their guns.

Liberals... You can get along better without em'...

instead of looking at gun control, I think mental disorders should be looked at. The reason this guy killed students was not because he had a gun, but because he had a mental disorder. Even if he didn't have a gun, he could have kick them in the head a hundred times (one by one obviously).

I take it quite seriously. I seriously resist any efforts at creating more useless gun laws.
seems six years of fascist oppression in america isn't enough to wake some people up. our right to arms precedes the us constitution. isn't it a good thing? if not for guns in the hands of patriots, there would be a union jack flying outside your junior high school. read some of those books.
Have you been watching The View?
We take it very serious. It is a bad idea to even consider gun control. You take everyones guns and then only the criminals will have them. I have several and I will never give them up.
If guns were allowed on this campus, perhaps, there would have been a law abiding gun carrying citizen around to take this crazy gut out.

Crazy people with an agenda and criminals set on a crime do not obey laws and would get a gun in spite of the law.

Just like drug addicts can get illegal drugs.

The people who are responsible and obey the gun laws are the only ones effected from banning guns.

The largest school autocracies was in 1918 in Chicago where a deranged person used dynamite to bomb a newly opened school. 68 children died. He also called himself an anacrhist. Should we have baned dynamite?

Was this deranged murder in VA using an automatic weapon or Uzi?? Quit using every disaster as an excuse for banning guns. Also I haven't surrendered to an oppressive government.

quite yet. Too bad that you have already given up. You would make a good Nazi or communist. They didn't allow guns either. Just another brick in the wall.
I agree that the Virginia incident is horrific.

However, tighter gun laws will not curb such incidents.

When someone comes to the unfortunate point of breaking, and going completely psycho, they are going to do just that.

Short of predicting the future and apprehending violent criminals before they act, it is unreasonable to think we can prevent the act.

I believe that if a person gets it in his/her head to do something ';crazy,'; they will find a way to do it. If they can't find a gun, they'll build a bomb, etc...

The best prevention I can think of is in how we raise our children. I am not saying that this guy's parents, or any other criminals' parents, are responsible for the acts of their offspring. I am saying that we owe it to ourselves, our children and our communities to raise good citizens.

You seem to be one of the few Americans who has actually read the Second Amendment. That's what it will take, reading and understanding the Second Amendment.
I agree with you to a point. No civilian should have access to rapid fire arms. To have a hunting shotgun or rifle doesn't mean that you are any safer though. They have also been used to kill people.

Who knows the answer? Americans love their guns! It seems that we will never rid ourselves of all the guns in this country. But we should try to keep the really dangerous ones out of the hands of civilians.
