How is it possible for the dems to control the senate?

Even with Va going for the dems, it will be Republicans 49, Democrats 49, and independents 2. The fact that the 2 independents lean damocratic dosen't mean they should get control of chairmanship. After all the VP + the 49 puts the republicans in the majorityHow is it possible for the dems to control the senate?
Because the 2 independents will caucus with the Democrats, giving them 51 seats. That's how the cookie crumbles. How is it possible for the dems to control the senate?
Lieberman at least has alreayd committed to remaning a Democrat, so at worst it would be 50-49-1 for Democrats. Cheney doesn't come into play except to break ties
by winning more seats in the election
We need more independents.
Interesting question. I think that congress would vote for their leader, and the indies get to choose which of the two parties leaders they wish to support. Third parties aren't left out of the constitution--the electoral college just makes them impractical.
They will need 51 democrats in order to control the Senate. They do of course have, for the most part, the two independent candidates however who might vote with them (I believe both of these were Democrats at one time - at least Lieberman was)

The VP isn't counted as part of the controlling party. He only has voting power to break ties.
The Dems have 50 right now. They are still waiting on the results from th VA senate race. So its 50-49-1. Tester won in Montana.
Good question, I don't know. I thought that independents were counted as Dems, or declare themselves as such.
it shouldn't be possible
The VP is only counted if there is a tie.
I know!

How could this happen?!?!?!
Lieberman already committed to vote Dem so what else ?
