My emotions and mood swings are worse then they were before I was diagnosed and have no motivation to do anything. Please advise. How long should it take to get bipolar under control?
Unfortunately it can be a lengthy process,as in months or years and continuous tweaking of meds to compensate for life events and what have you. I've been in treatment for 7 years now and I've been stable for no more than 4-6 months at a time, but some people are more easily treatable. Everyone reacts to meds differently and different med combinations work for different people, so there's no real indication of how long it will take you personally to stabilize. The important thing is to keep an open line of communicatioin with your psychiatrist so you can work out a change if something doesn't seem to be working for you.How long should it take to get bipolar under control?
Sometimes the meds may need to be tweaked, so talk with your doctor. Ask if a med adjustment is needed. Bipolar medication is the key, but therapy can also help you to discuss way of dealing with moods.
It can take as short as a month or as long as 5 years
Different for everyone
tell your doctor about the mood swings getting worse, you might need to switch meds
