Go to that link and read a bit, then scroll down until you see '; Induction methods '; and look below that section to read about the various techniques to induce lucid dreams. I'm thinking about getting a lucid dream induction mask-thing. Sounds interesting, and logical check it out:

';The Lucidity Institute produced the original Dreamlight and NovaDreamer models which were originally on sale for $120 and only produced in semi-limited quantities. Funds raised from these devices where used to help fund further research by the Lucidity Institute. A similar device called the NovaDreamer II has been ';coming soon'; since at least 2004, and should be made available to the general public in late 2009. A similar device known as the Dream Mask has also been produced. Some individuals have created their own devices using foam and simple electronics.';

To a very limited extent. I think the reason for that is that we need our dreams but we are not wise enough to program them. But, I once had a lot of dreams of falling but never landing. So I kept telling myself when I went to bed, ';I want to land when I fall.'; Or, something like that. I had to tell myself that several times to get it to work once. So I think it can be done a little bit, but not wholesale.

Also, sometimes when you are waking while dreaming you can take over the dream some and guide it, but then I don't think it is fully a dream.

';My friend told me that If you are dreaming and you realize that its a dream, then you can control it.'; Tell your friend I think he or she is dreaming!
It's called lucid dreaming, and it happens only once or twice in a lifetime for some or more often for others. It's nigh impossible to trigger one, but going to bed early, being well-hydrated, well-fed, and unstressed will increase the chances.

And no, those dreams you have right before you wake up don't count as lucid dreams.

EDIT: Oh, and to stop them, walk up to a mirror. Your body has trouble imagining reflection.
that's true. they also say that if you realize you're in a dream, or you die in a dream, then you die. but i've been able to control my dreams and sometimes it makes them more frustrating when i can't.

i read something that said if you think about something before you fall asleep for a long enough time, then you end up dreaming about it.
Yes, when you realize you are dreaming it is called ';lucid dreaming';, and psychologists are still not sure exactly how it works that people are able to lucid dream, but sometimes if you realize you are dreaming you can control it or direct how it goes.

:)
Yes, it is true to an extent. What your friend is referring to is known as a lucid dream. Controlling it has different methods depending on who you talk to.
You can control your dreams.

If you can get the book The Art and Practice of Astral Projection by Ophiel, the instructions are there.
There is all kinds of different dreams. Some you can control, some you just can only watch, some you can't control.
